Fire Prevention Week: Igniting Knowledge Through Community Partnerships!
Our third-grade students had an informative session on fire safety followed by an eye-opening visit to the Fire House, where they experienced a simulation to understand the hazards within their homes and how to escape in emergencies. A big thank you to the St. James Fire Protection District for helping teach our students these important life lessons!
At St. James R-1 School District, we value community partnerships because they play a pivotal role in enriching our students' education. Collaborating with organizations like the St. James Fire Protection District not only enhances our curriculum but also fosters a sense of community, showing our students the power of teamwork and the importance of giving back. #FirePreventionWeek #communitypartnerships #stjschools #tigerpride

To kick off Fire Prevention Week, our Kindergarten and Tiger Cubs students had an engaging learning experience with the support of our community partners, including the St. James Ambulance District, St. James Police Department, St. James Fire Protection District, and Copeland Bus Service. We also had guests from our city and state governments, City Administrator Dan Knoell, and our State Representative Tara J. Peters!
These real-world experiences enrich our students' education, contributing to their academic growth and understanding of the world around them. We're grateful for the support of our community in shaping the minds and hearts of our future leaders. Thank you all for making this week special as our students learn about Fire Safety! #FirePreventionWeek #communitypartnerships #stjschools
Mission Monday Highlight: St. James FCA - Inspiring Youth, Strengthening Community!
So far this year, St. James High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has brought students together to grow personally and to extend their hands in service to our community.
FCA isn't just for athletes; it's open to all high school students who want to explore their passions and use them to make a difference. While sponsors Bri Hodge and Luke Overton assist with logistics, our students lead the way, fostering a sense of community and purpose.
Every week, students gather to celebrate their shared values. On Tuesdays, they enjoy uplifting songs together, and on Thursdays, they're treated to inspiring messages their fellow students deliver. These gatherings help nurture a sense of togetherness and encouragement.
Beyond the school walls, FCA is actively involved in community outreach. Leadership students have spent time with Terry Geiler from the Cowboy Church, engaging in conversations and offering encouragement to those they meet. They have also helped with Commodity Distribution at St. James Caring Center, providing vital support to those in our community who need it most.
Looking ahead, FCA has more community outreach in the works. They are dedicated to making a positive impact in our community, striving to create a more connected and compassionate environment for our students and neighbors.

Learning Highlight: Spooky Stories and Soundful Learning - Onomatopoeias in Action!
Superintendent Webster surprised Mrs. Garr's fourth-grade class, treating our students to a spine-tingling spooky story. Students have been diving into the world of onomatopoeias, and the spooky story was filled with great examples.
But the fun didn't stop there – after the book, students transformed into bats and playfully chased Mrs. Garr and Mr. Webster! Ghosts, ghouls, and giggles galore – it was a storytime filled with laughter and plenty of "BOOs" and "Eeks" from the book's pages! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride
Mission Makers: St. James Girls Volleyball Serves Compassion Through Paint It Pink Night!
Paint It Pink Night is more than just a sporting event; it's a powerful expression of our school district's mission. Our dedication to empowering our students through caring relationships, academic excellence, and community partnerships shines through in this annual tradition. This year, our student-athletes, coaches, and community members came together to raise over $1600 for those bravely battling breast cancer within our school and town.
At St. James R-1 School District, we don't just educate; we nurture compassionate citizens who understand the value of community. #MissionMakers #stjschools #tigerpride
Attendance: Your Passport to Success!
In our district, we're dedicated to improving all student attendance, aligning with the State's "90/90 rule" goal. It's about achieving two key milestones:
*90% Attendance: Our aim is to have 90% or more of our students attending school regularly.
*90% of Instructional Time: We encourage our students to be present for 90% or more of the instructional time provided during the school year.
Thanks to your incredible support, we've been celebrating high attendance rates! Let's continue to travel this path together, unlocking success for our students, one stamp at a time! #AttendanceMatters #stjschools #tigerpride

Learning Highlight!
Howdy, partners! This week, our first-grade buckaroos delved deep into the world of cowboys and cowgirls. They learned about qualities like kindness, courage, patience, and the ability to work together.
In an action-packed day of fun, they kicked things off with stick horse races, demonstrating their sight word and math skills while blazing the trail. And then our little cowhands had the privilege of meeting two special guests: Cowgirl Hunter and Cowgirl Gray, who shared a thrilling tale with them.
Students were able to meet Scottish Highland Cattle! These furry friends belong to none other than our very own first-grade teacher, Mrs. Duclos.
Hats off to First Grade for a successful day on the trail! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride
Tiger Highlight: Celebrating Lucy Wortham James Elementary's Students of the Month!
LWJE is launching an inspiring initiative where they celebrate important values and character traits! For September, their chosen word was EMPATHY.
Throughout the month, students across all grade levels will participate in engaging classroom challenges that encourage them to embody the “Word of the Month” in their daily lives. Whether it's lending a helping hand, showing kindness, or simply listening with an open heart, we are nurturing these essential skills. At the end of the month, each classroom teacher will select a student who has truly embraced the spirit of the word. These students will be recognized as our "Students of the Month!”
👏 Let's give a big round of applause to our LWJE Students of the Month for September! 👏
Learning Highlight: One Green Apple, Many Sweet Lessons!
Mrs. Wainwright’s second-grade class had a special visitor last week! Her mother dropped by to teach the kids to whip up some delicious homemade applesauce. The students got hands-on and helped with peeling and grinding apples and also learned about emotions through the focus book of the week, "One Green Apple," by Eve Bunting.
In the story, the main character felt isolated and different when she moved to a new country and couldn't speak the language. During a class trip to the apple orchard, her classmates selected red apples for cider, while she chose a single green apple. It was only after making new friends that she realized the extraordinary taste when the apples blended together. They realized the magic of diversity – just like in their applesauce!
These moments remind us that the world is a better place because of its incredible differences. Let's celebrate diversity, one apple (and one student) at a time! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride
Tiger Highlight: Exploring Future Horizons!
Recently, a group of our Tigers had an amazing day touring Washington University and St. Louis University, exploring their college options. Ms. North, our rockstar College Advisor, is helping bridge the gap between high school and college, making the transition smoother than ever. These visits are a crucial step as they transition from high school to college life. #EmpoweringStudents #stjschools #tigerpride
Learning Highlight: Slime Time!
Some of our youngest Tigers recently had a blast at the library! Mrs. Hunter read an interactive, laugh-out-loud book about paying attention and listening, followed by some hands-on fun making slime. Students were able to put their listening skills to the test! #academicexcellence #stjschools #tigerpride
