Summer School 2024 has come to an end! We finished the year watching The Lion King Kids performance (which was AMAZING) this morning and a water celebration in the afternoon. What a perfect way to end a fun month! 😁
Mr. Lewis's science class put their knowledge of chemical changes to the test and enjoyed mini s'mores this morning to celebrate the end of summer school. Thanks for making learning fun and engaging for our kids every day!
Congratulations to our Summer Ultra #2 finishers! This morning, 21 students spent their morning running 4 miles in 100 minutes. Several attempted this challenge last week, and not everyone finished. Today, every participant finished and was awarded a medal! It was a HOT run, but our kitchen staff supplied our kids with snacks and we make sure each child had water and electrolytes.
Well done kids, and thanks for organizing this activity, Mrs. Moore!
It was a fun day today! We began with BINGO (Thank you, PTO) and ended with a trip to The Zone.
Mrs. Moore hosted a Summer Ultra running challenge (inspired by the Back Yard Ultra). Several of our students accepted the challenge and ran 3.6 miles to start their day.
This was a great way to celebrate being halfway finished with summer school. Only 2 weeks left, and a lot more learning and fun to go!
It was a beautiful day for some outdoor yoga! We owe a HUGE thanks to Mr. Story for coming in and teaching our kids some basic yoga moves and techniques. We loved it! We felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. 🧘♀️
After, kids headed back inside and tried different kinds of teas and coffees, and they spent some time journaling.
Summer school parents/guardians: Today, each middle school student is being sent home with a permission slip for Friday's field trip to The Zone. It is a BRIGHT GREEN piece of paper. All permission slips are due back by 9 a.m. on Friday, June 14th.
Here is the link to the permission slip if you need to print it off: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vOKrCWJYJuKC2AiP7c7LcL22EB25KTXgfMoqc7eTGJg/edit?usp=sharing
We've got some pirates in Mr. Lewis's science class! Students have been studying surface tension and water displacement, and they are testing what they've learned by building pirate ships. The goal was to see who could build a ship that could hold the most "booty" (washers). The winning ship held 44 washers!
What a fun way to study science!
We are so happy we were able to bring Coach Hildebrand out of retirement to teach summer school this year! She is teaching PE and a World Skills class. Students are learning valuable skills they can use in their everyday lives. Today, she taught students about lawnmower safety, how to read an oil dip stick, and oil mixes for small engines. Some of our students shared their lawn mowing experiences, and there were several, "I didnt know that!" moments. Thanks for sharing these life lessons, Coach!
This month's "Mookie Pause for Reading" winner is 7th grader Sofia Brooks! We love this incentive :)
Our Citizenship class is hosting a canned food drive from now until October 13th! All canned goods will go directly to the St. James Caring Center.
This is a completely student-led project, and the students have created a competitive reward system with prizes!
It's social contract day! Teachers gathered bright and early yesterday to collaboratively create our social contract for the school year. These words represent how we will treat one another in different situations to ensure we are an effective team.
Here are our nominees for the FLW character trait of the month, Integrity. Caden Jenkins, Sidney Mead, and Teryn Vass.
Today is School Lunch Hero Day. Please be sure and thank your cafeteria workers for all of the hard work they do!
Come see our amazing Spring All Bands Concert this Sunday beginning at 2:00.
