Students in Mrs. Hodge’s 3-D Art Class have just finished an imaginative collaborative art project. Introducing Terrance Florenzo III - a mischievous goblin that the class created together. Building Terrance together not only allowed the students to showcase their artistic skills, but also provided them with a valuable collaborative experience that promotes teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Would you like to meet the dashing Terrance? You are invited to attend the High School Art Show this evening from 5-7 PM to meet Terrance Florenzo III and also view the incredible hard work that other art students have put in throughout the year. There will be live jazz music and vocals from our students. The show is a fantastic opportunity to support arts in education and celebrate creativity.

Sixth-grade students at St. James Middle School have been learning about Argumentative Writing and recently had to debate the topic: Should People Own Exotic Pets? These students took the assignment to heart and used it as an opportunity to advocate for what they believe in by writing to Governor Parson.
Addison Rodriguez, Landri Abel, Lilli Alexander, Jaelynn Jones, Brookelynn Tiner, and Chloe Collins (not pictured) wrote letters about the need for a law banning the private ownership of exotic pets. The students were honored to receive a personal response from Governor Parson and they are even more excited to continue their active role as citizens.
The students' initiative is a direct example of our district mission: empowering students through caring relationships, academic excellence, and community partnerships. By engaging with their state leaders and expressing their opinions, these students have demonstrated their commitment to learning and positively impacting their community.

Middle school students in Mrs. Stack’s math class have been studying distributive property and factoring expressions, so they embarked on a unique adventure to apply what they have learned. They took advantage of the warm weather and went outside to climb "mountains."
The students had to stop at eight stations on their way to Mt. Everest. At each station, they had to solve four problems before moving on to the next mountain. It wasn't easy, but they persevered, and the reward was worth it. They had the bragging rights of "climbing" Mt. Everest.
This adventure not only helped students understand the concepts better, but also fostered teamwork, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking. What a brilliant way to take learning outside the classroom for a fun and engaging lesson!

Family and Consumer Science and Nutrition classes baked up a storm and created some delicious treats that are sure to brighten up your day! The high school students tried their hand at gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate cupcakes and frosting, overnight oats, frozen fruit cups, and s’mores waffles.
Through this hands-on experience, students learn about measurement, timing, and following instructions. They’re not just learning how to bake, but also about the science behind the ingredients and how they interact with each other. Studies have shown that students who participate in hands-on learning activities have higher retention rates and are more likely to understand and apply the concepts being taught.

It’s Election Day!
The St. James R-1 School District’s Vision states that we will empower all students to positively contribute to the community and world. One of the ways we can achieve this goal is by setting an example and showing them the importance of civic engagement, starting with the act of voting. By participating in local elections, we shape the future of our community by directly impacting our schools, our neighborhoods, and our daily lives. Share the news and let's get to the polls!

Part of the St. James R-1 School District's mission is to foster positive, caring relationships with our community. Recently, the Middle School choir provided the St. James Police Department and the Phelps County Sheriff's Department with donuts. Pictured delivering the donuts is eighth grader Sofia Held. We love seeing our students showing appreciation toward the men and women who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Such acts of kindness go a long way in strengthening our relationships with local law enforcement and the communities they serve. We recognize and celebrate the efforts of these young individuals who are living the Tiger Way!

Students interested in pursuing a career in education recently toured Missouri S&T, where they participated in STEM-focused activities as well as education trivia. The visit also included a question-answer session with current S&T faculty and students, providing our students with a chance to learn from experts in the field. Missouri S&T is known for its commitment to advancing STEM education and encouraging students to pursue careers in teaching. As part of this effort, the university offers dual credit to current seniors who are interested in joining the teaching profession. For those interested in exploring a career in teaching, Mrs. Katie Shultz serves as the district contact for the Grow Your Own Program.

What is the recipe for student success?
First and foremost, you need your main ingredient: a quality educator. Next, you provide dedicated and hardworking classified staff such as paraprofessionals, custodians, and kitchen staff to support the District's mission of student success. Finally, it is proven that the quality of school facilities impacts student learning. Students can remain attentive and focused if they are comfortable and safe in their environment. Prop TIGERS will help us fulfill our ingredient list for student success.

🐅 It's TIGERS Tuesday 🐅
Every Tuesday we'll be sharing about Prop TIGERS with our community to make sure they have accurate information about the proposed measure.
Providing a safe and secure environment for our students and staff is our #1 priority each and every day. We know that if students do not feel safe, then learning cannot take place. Prop TIGERS would help generate funds to purchase updated equipment to increase building and classroom safety.
Proposition TIGERS is a $0.65 operating levy increase to RETAIN quality staff through salary increases. The levy will also be used to save money to MAINTAIN current buildings and increase safety in the St. James R-1 School District.
