News and Updates: TAP Grant

Welcome to this week's Mission Monday! We are thrilled to announce that the Missouri Department of Transportation has awarded our district the 2024 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Award.

Introducing the Tiger Trail

As part of this grant, we are proud to unveil our latest project: the Tiger Trail. This initiative will create a dedicated path through Central St. James, connecting our schools and community, and providing a safe and enjoyable route for running, walking, and biking for our students and the wider community. The Tiger Trail is set to receive $513,590 in funding, with $410,872 covered by federal TAP funds and the remaining amount provided by our district and local partners.

A Statewide Impact with Local Benefits

Our Tiger Trail project is one of forty-nine selected across Missouri, benefiting from a share of approximately $19.78 million in federal TAP funds. These projects, strategically located outside the State’s three urban Transportation Management Areas, aim to enhance transportation options and improve community connectivity.

The TAP initiative promotes healthier lifestyles, reduces traffic congestion, and minimizes environmental impact by focusing on non-motorized transportation, such as bike and pedestrian pathways. The Tiger Trail will not only provide a safe route for students and residents but also encourage outdoor activities and foster a sense of community.

Next Steps and Community Involvement

We will soon receive official notification from our MoDOT District Local Public Agency program coordinator, detailing the next steps in the TAP project implementation process. This collaborative effort will involve local stakeholders, including the Phelps County Meramec Regional Planning Commission, to ensure the Tiger Trail meets our community's needs.

The TAP funding covers up to 80 percent of eligible project costs, with the St. James R-1 School District providing a minimum 20 percent match.
