The St. James R-1 School District is proud to announce a significant stride towards ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for its students and staff. We are pleased to share that Mrs. Becky Daniels, of the St. James R-1 School District, has successfully achieved certification as a School Safety Specialist.

The distinguished certification was earned through active participation in the recent School Safety Academy, hosted by the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s Center for Education Safety. The comprehensive training event, held from July 25 to July 27, 2023, in Jefferson City, gathered school safety coordinators from 64 school systems across the state. This initiative aims to equip school safety personnel with the essential knowledge and tools for the development of comprehensive school safety plans.

"We understand the paramount importance of creating a safe learning environment for our students, teachers, and staff," emphasized Center for Education Safety Director Amy Roderick. "In today's world, it's imperative that schools have well-defined processes, protocols, and trained staff to respond effectively and efficiently to any situation. This ensures an optimal atmosphere for learning," she added.

The School Safety Academy covered a wide range of critical topics, including support systems for behaviors, legal aspects of school safety, trauma-informed schools and mental health resources, intervention and de-escalation techniques, emergency preparedness and plan building, behavioral risk and threat assessments, and fundamentals of cyber security.

The CES School Safety Academy lays the foundation for certifying school safety coordinators, with plans to extend the program to encompass advanced training and certification in the future. The St. James R-1 School District is dedicated to maintaining a proactive approach to school safety, and this accomplishment underscores our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our school community.
