St. James, June 8, 2023 – Today, John F. Hodge High School celebrated its 100th anniversary with a memorable Centennial Celebration. Students, alumni, staff, and community members gathered to honor a century of academic excellence.
To kick off the event, Jazz Studies students entertained the audience with jazz tunes and showcased their talent. The school's fight song, composed by Mr. Derek Limback, was played as an honor to the District and our mission.
Superintendent Webster welcomed everyone to the ceremony and explained the significance of the date: June 8. 1923. On that date, the cornerstone of the building was set, ushering in the next 100 years of education in our community. Attendees learned about the creation of a time capsule, which will be opened 50 years from now. Significant items that symbolize the school's accomplishments and spirit were added into the capsule by current Principal Devin Johnson as well as school board members, former principals, and district leadership.
A notable highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a proclamation by Governor Mike Parson. The proclamation, recognizing the significance of the Centennial Celebration, was delivered by Dakota Julian, a 2016 St. James alumni, who currently serves as an Operations Specialist for Governor Parson.
After the ceremony, attendees enjoyed refreshments and had the opportunity to explore the high school, guided by Mr. Webster. The tour allowed guests to appreciate the school's updated facilities and relive the nostalgia from walking the halls.
We look forward to the next 100 Years of Education in our district where we strive to empower our students through caring relationships, academic excellence, and community partnerships.
