Forestry Board for St. James poses in front of new tree planted in town.

Arbor Day is a day of celebration that brings awareness of the vital role trees play in our communities. This year, the St. James R-1 School District participated in Arbor Day celebrations in a big way, with two of its Tiger staff members, Melissa Keeney and Wes Deluca, planting a tree in town as part of the festivities. The tree was donated by Huffman's Flowers of the Field and is a beautiful addition to our town.

Keeney and Deluca are both members of the Forestry Board, a group of volunteers who work to promote tree care and planting in the St. James area. The efforts of the Forestry Board has helped St. James again earn recognition as a Tree City USA. To earn this designation, a community must meet four key standards: having a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending a set amount on urban forestry, and holding an Arbor Day celebration. Tree City USA designation is a prestigious recognition given to communities that demonstrate a commitment to planting and caring for trees.

The St. James R-1 School District is proud to be part of a community that values trees, the beautification of our town,  and the important role they play in our environment!
