As spring begins to take hold and the end of the school year draws near, the fifth graders from Lucy Wortham James Elementary are preparing for an important transition. Under the guidance of their counselor, Mrs. Giacolone, the students have been learning about the changes they will face as they move on to middle school.
To help with this transition, the students recently had the opportunity to tour the middle school and meet with new teachers, counselors, and building administration. They also had the chance to speak with current middle school students and ask them questions about their experiences.
This experience aligns with the district's mission to develop caring relationships with students. By investing in these relationships early, the district is setting the stage for the students' future success.
For these fifth graders, the transition to middle school can be overwhelming, but the support they received from their counselor and the middle school community will undoubtedly make the process smoother. The tour helped to familiarize them with their new environment and alleviate any anxieties they may have had.

As the end of the school year approaches, we're inspired by the efforts being made to support the students' emotional well-being and ensure they are equipped to succeed. Hats off to Lucy Wortham James Elementary and St. James Middle School for investing in their students' future!
