As the superintendent of schools, one of the most important responsibilities of mine is to develop and continue to foster strong relationships within our community. The success of our school district depends on building these positive relationships. Our school and community have always functioned as a highly cooperative team over the years, and we want it to remain this way by keeping an ongoing, two-way communication structure in place. This past school year we conducted a staff survey to monitor perspectives from those working within the district. We took this feedback and developed several in-house continuous improvement strategies. As a combined result of the staff survey and work from leadership team members, we recently created a District Improvement Survey to help us further understand how we are doing as a school district. As part of our district’s goal of continuous improvement, it is important for us to learn the opinions and ideas of our various audiences. The St. James R-I School District’s Board of Education would like your input on proposed future program improvements as they relate to overall district-wide goals. Starting on Monday, July 15, this survey will be available on the district website and on district endorsed social media. There will be periodic reminders via email, social media, and on the radio. We ask that you access the District Improvement Survey online. If you are not internet users and want to participate, the district will mail a hard copy survey to you. Please call 573-265-2300 to request this hard copy survey, or you may visit the Administrative Office at 122 E. Scioto to retrieve it in person. The Administrative Office is open every day during the summer from 8am-4pm. The survey will be available from July 15 through July 26.

The feedback collected from this survey will be public information. This feedback will be dissected by the district administrative team, which includes all building principals. It will then be delivered to the Board of Education during an open meeting. At this meeting, the administrative team will share a plan to act on the feedback as a guide to help us make data-driven decisions. In reviewing the results, we will celebrate the positives and list strategies to respond to our noted shortcomings. The St. James R-I School District Board of Education and Administration take our responsibilities seriously to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe and tolerant learning environment. Use of surveys is one way to guide our work. The quantitative data will be published on the district website, district endorsed social media, in the St. James Press, and on the radio. We would appreciate if you would take a few minutes to share your opinions so we can better serve our students and the community of St. James.
