Superintendent Reports

The St. James R-I School District has an excellent tradition of long-range, comprehensive planning that is rooted in a focus on continuous improvement and the processes and systems that support that effort. Over the past few months, a group of approximately 30 Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) team members participated in updating the district’s strategic plan. The primary purpose of updating the district’s CSIP is to meet the unique needs of each student in the district and to provide the necessary support to the professionals working each day in schools to make that happen.

The CSIP is a five-year strategic plan which provides a framework through which the St. James R-1 School District will support the schools in ensuring the academic success of each student. Strategic planning is a requirement for evaluation as dictated by the Missouri School Improvement Process (MSIP). The District’s CSIP is a vital part of the evaluation process and is the driving document which links the vision, mission, beliefs and goals set forth by the district.  Although the CSIP undergoes a comprehensive review on a five-year cycle, the plan is reviewed and progress is evaluated annually. If new information indicates mid-cycle revisions are necessary, revisions will be incorporated into the current plan.

This strategic plan is founded on thoughtful input from stakeholders including parents, students, community members, board of education representatives, dedicated education professionals and a partnership with FiredUp Consulting Group. The CSIP team met four evenings in March and August to begin drafting the St. James R-I strategic plan. All of these stakeholders involved in this process share our common mission to empower students through caring relationships, academic excellence, and community partnerships. The CSIP will guide the building committees in development of their annual building improvement plans and by school administration in development of the operating budget and capital improvement needs. This document will be a living guide that will set a direction for changing and energizing the course of learning in the St. James R-1 School District.

The new district vision, mission, and beliefs statements were officially approved at last Thursday night’s board meeting. This approval is our first step toward the completion of our revised CSIP, which is scheduled to be approved next month!!! The Board of Education will have time to review and provide additional input into the plan prior to the October 15 approval.

Our new vision statement is: “The St. James R-1 School District will empower all students to positively contribute to the community and world.”

Our new mission statement is: “The mission of the St. James R-1 School District is to empower students through caring relationships, academic excellence, and community partnerships.”

Our Beliefs are:

  • That everyone is valued and can learn;
  • That everyone deserves a physically and emotionally safe environment;
  • In building relationships and effective partnerships with the community and beyond;
  • In providing relevant, rigorous and viable curriculum that maximizes student achievement;
  • In fostering a collaborative culture for student achievement and opportunities.

The St. James R-I School District has always and will continue to provide the very best educational and extracurricular opportunities for all students. These new statements do not change who we are… but they do help guide us to better understand our present realities, where we want to be, and how we plan to get there. The Board of Education and administration are excited to encourage staff, parents, and patrons to continue living out each of these new statements EVERY DAY!
