The St. James R-I School District recently partnered with Compass Health to bring a School-Based Therapist into the district. Compass Health is a nonprofit health care organization with a vision of full, productive, healthy lives for everyone. Their health care model focuses on treating the whole person and is a collaboration of care involving the individual customer, personal providers and, when appropriate, family members. The free services provided by Compass Health are enhanced by data and technology to ensure students receive evidence-based care delivered in the right way, at the right time.

In normal times, and especially now, many kids struggle with mental health. Our school district is dedicated to getting as many resources to our students as possible. School based therapists will see students whose parents/guardians complete required documentation and are on Medicaid or are able to self-pay for services. Treatment available may include: Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and more.  Family sessions are also available. This program will benefit our students by allowing them to see someone in a familiar school setting, reducing the amount of time a student is out of the educational setting, eliminating barriers many people face while seeking counseling (transportation, taking time off of work, etc.), and promoting a “wholistic” approach to the students overall health and well-being. These students will also have access to other programs through the Compass Health Network that includes medical and dental care, psychiatric and substance use services.  If you would like to receive more information about the School Based Therapist, please reach out to your child’s school counselor.
