Superintendent Reports


As the summer progresses, we continue to work to communicate the most up-to-date district related information. Below is information about graduation, summer school, and the return to school in the Fall: 


The 2019-2020 academic school year will officially come to a close at the senior graduation ceremony this Friday. We look forward to seeing all invited guests on the evening of June 26 at 8pm as we celebrate with our seniors. We have created a plan in order to maintain social distancing and to comply with existing county health recommendations for all people in attendance. Seats for the graduates will be on the field and spaced to abide by social distancing guidelines. Guests will be able to sit in the bleachers or they may bring their own chairs to sit outside the bleacher area. Upon arrival, guests will enter the pass list gate which will be organized in alphabetical order by the graduate’s last name. The ceremony’s live-stream link will be available on the district website for those unable to attend. The outstanding class of 2020 is destined to do amazing things in the future. We wish them a safe passage through the next chapters or their lives.  

July Summer School 

Parents received an initial email verification after the summer school enrollment form was submitted during the registration process. School staff have already contacted or will be contacting the parents and/or students to confirm participation. If you registered by the June 10 deadline and have not heard from school personnel by Monday, June 29, please contact the principal’s office in the building your child will be attending. Participating summer school students will receive the best possible education to help alleviate any academic loss during the COVID Closure. Summer school will begin July 6 and end July 29. We will communicate our safety plans for summer school early next week.  

Return to School in the Fall

We are currently developing plans and action steps for the upcoming school year that include levels of responses based on the spread of COVID present in St. James. These plans would allow us to alter our response based on health guidelines in place at any given time. We will continue to follow the guidance of the Phelps-Maries County Health Department and the CDC as we determine the appropriate level of response. One of the most challenging scenarios to develop is how we would safely and effectively hold in-person classes if there is a moderate spread of illness in our community. We have reviewed the results of the “Return to School” parent survey and plan to use this information along with state and county health recommendations to help us develop safe and appropriate “Return to School” plans and contingencies. The return to school date is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25. A tentative “Return to School” plan will be communicated with parents and the community in late July or early August.
