“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes time. Vision with action can change the world.” – Joel Barker

The above quote is our charge as a district as we embark on a mission to update our short and long term district goals. If we practice the philosophy of continuous improvement, our district will get a little bit better every single day. It is of utmost importance for our present and future students, and for our community and beyond, that we strategically identify our needs and determine the direction in which we want our district to go.

The St. James R-I School District will be working with FiredUp Consulting Group to help us develop an updated short and long term Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). This plan will guide the District’s decisions over the next 5 years and will withstand the transition of staff over this period. The CSIP Plan includes:

  • The development and/or revisions of the District mission, vision, and beliefs
  • Identification of the top focus areas for the District
  • SMART Goals/Evidence-Based measures for each focus area
  • Action steps aligned to the focus areas
  • An easy process to review the plan each Spring to keep it updated and responsive to current situations or needs

Creating a strategic plan is the most important task we can complete as a district for our community, as it will guide every decision we make for our students. As we begin the process, we will analyze our current Strengths and Weaknesses and identify potential Opportunities and Threats. It’s important that this strategic plan reflects the desires of the community as a whole. Please help us get started by providing your own views and by encouraging others to provide theirs by completing a “Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats” (SWOT) survey. This survey will be available this week on our district Facebook and Twitter pages and on our website at stjschools.org. You can also directly access the survey by going to the following link: stjschools.org/survey

The information collected from this survey will be analyzed by approximately 30 local members on the CSIP committee. These members include students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members, business leaders, and community members. They will be meeting four evenings in March to help determine this most important work. Thank you for help as we strive to make St. James R-I Schools the best place for our students for generations to come!
