Superintendent Reports

During this time of the year, school districts, service groups and local businesses are working together to provide food and gifts to families who need some extra support. Year after year, I am amazed by the outpouring of love and compassion from our community to make sure our families can put food on the table, meet their family’s basic needs and provide Christmas gifts for their children. In spite of the unique challenges we have experienced this year, the community of St. James is still exhibiting the same generosity we have for many years.

It is truly a blessing to be part of the STJ Tiger Family. The elementary counseling center has received a multitude of donations to help meet the needs of our students. We are grateful for a full closet of backpacks, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, shoes and clothes to aid in student needs as they arise throughout the school year. We are also grateful to work in partnership with the Caring Center and the St. James Sports Club.

Our Buddy Pack Program is flourishing. This program is designed to fill the gap with kid-friendly food for our children in need of provisions, not found at home over the weekend. It is with the help of these donations that we are able to work in the effort to fight against childhood hunger, not only this Christmas season… but year round. Our packs stay reasonably small with 2 breakfast, 2 lunches, 2 snacks and 2 dinner items. These items vary with availability and funding. At Lucy Wortham James Elementary, we are currently bagging an average of 50 bags each week. At this time we are working with a full pantry.

Tis the season of giving….. It is with a happy heart that we thank our local businesses, churches, clubs and individual donors for their monetary donations or food items for the Lucy Wortham James Elementary Buddy Pack Program and gifts this Christmas season. We were able to help multiple families with gifts and food. We are fortunate and blessed to live in a community that is so willing to give and support.

Below are those who have given this year:

Flag Springs Church, Forest City Christian Church, Phelps County Bank, Town & Country Bank, Country Mart, St. James FFA, Cohen Woodworking, Knights of Columbus, Hutcheson Ford, Sybill’s, Colton’s Steakhouse, Bronze Boutique & Terry Campbell, Trinity Episcopal Church, St. James Lions Club and the multiple individuals, as well those who would like to remain anonymous. Your generosity during this Holiday Season is greatly appreciated.

This is an amazing expression of kindness and care, still proof there is a lot of good in our world.  It is gestures like these that make this the most wonderful time of the year! Thank you so much to our entire community for making this possible. I wish you a Merry Christmas and an abundance of safety, peace and happiness in the New Year.
