We are nearing the end of the first quarter, which will be this Friday, October 18. Report cards will be available in time for Parent/Teacher conferences, which will be Tuesday November 5 (3:30-7pm) and Thursday, November 7 (1-7pm). We look forward to this time to interact with parents in the best interest of our students. These conferences were intentionally scheduled later this year to give our educational staff more time to better evaluate and understand student needs. Our goal for P/T Conferences is to provide the most useful and accurate information about your student’s progress. Our teachers work very hard to prepare for these conferences and to find ways to genuinely connect with parents, discuss their student’s academic progress, and to provide strategies for improvement. During these meetings it is critical for our teachers to explain current curriculum goals and to clearly communicate their teaching strategies to reach these goals.
The 2019-2020 school year has begun in a very positive manner with each school seeing success and gains both academically and in extracurriculars. Much of this success can be attributed to the efforts of the leadership and educational staff in each building. We are fortunate to have an exceptional educational staff who exemplify a “students first” attitude by responsibly using their professional development time to learn and identify authentic goals for continual improvement.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with traffic in the mornings and afternoons on Scioto Street as we continue to unload morning buses near the Ag building and load buses in the front of the high school in the afternoons. We are still anticipating Monday, October 28 as our first day to use the new bus lane! We have been fortunate to have several volunteers from the community help us since September 3. Each of these volunteers has given many hours of personal time to help our students safely navigate to and from our school facilities. Their assistance has been greatly appreciated!
As a reminder, our homecoming football game will be this Friday night vs. Union at 7pm. Our annual homecoming parade will be this Thursday afternoon at 1pm. The parade will start on Seymour in front of the current high school entrance. The parade will first go north across the railroad tracks and then turn left on Eldon Street. They will then proceed west on Eldon until they reach Jefferson Street. They will turn left and travel south on Jefferson until they reach Scioto Street. Finally, they will turn left on Scioto and continue until they reach the football field. Many of our students will be lined up along Scioto Street to view and cheer on their fellow Tigers. If you are available, I encourage you to come out and join in our fun-filled activities on Thursday afternoon during the parade and pep rally and Friday night at the football game.
