Update - 8/25/2020The District was able to develop a plan to make corrective repairs to the safety concerns associated with the High School roof. This plan was developed and approved by a team of registered professional engineers. These repairs can be quickly installed with readily available materials. These repairs will correct all concerns allowing safe occupancy for students and staff. The completion of this work will allow the High School to open for in-seat instruction starting Tuesday, September 8.
The St. James R-I School District was recently notified by a structural engineer that several existing high school roofs need to be repaired prior to occupancy. The roofs in need of repair are not part of our present construction projects. Due to this recent development, John F. Hodge High School will begin the 2020-2021 school year using Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI). This means that high school students will begin the year learning in a remote/virtual setting. Students who previously elected to start the school year in the virtual format will not be impacted. Students involved in extracurricular activities will be able to continue participating in these activities. This partial closure will not impact Lucy Wortham James Elementary and St. James Middle School students. The school year will start as originally planned for all students in grades PK-8 on Tuesday, August 25. Once the roof repairs are completed, a return to school date will be announced for the high school students. The high school administration and the superintendent’s office will keep all students and parents apprised of any changes to these plans during the closure. As always, the health and safety of our students and staff will remain a top priority at St. James R-I Schools.
